Cancale
The tiny village of Cancale is placed on a scenic position overlooking the Bay of Mont Saint Michel, , and is mostly famous for oyster breeding. Here a stunning 4000 tonnes of oysters are produced every year. On clear days you can see further out to the opposite side of the bay (in Normandy), with the majestic bulk of Mont Saint Michel standing out from the sea.
Cancale is a small fishermen village with a pretty port, “Port de la Houle”, always crowded with boats and carriages filled with oysters. Cancale is subject to the fascinating phenomenon of ebbs and flows, so it often happens to see fishermen boats stuck in the muddy bottom of the docks, among seaweeds, stones and shells.
